How Optical Level Switches Work?
At its core, an optical level switch consists of an infrared (IR) LED and a phototransistor. The LED emits an infrared light beam towards the liquid’s surface, and the phototransistor receives the reflected light. When the liquid is below the sensor, the light reflects back to the phototransistor, indicating a “no liquid” state. Conversely, when the liquid is present and interrupts the light beam, the phototransistor detects a change, signaling a “liquid detected” status.
